Gino Crump Sr.

Gino Crump Sr. is a public servant, mentor, and championship basketball coach whose career has been defined by developing young people both on and off the court. After building successful programs and impacting countless student athletes, he accepted the challenge of leading one of Arizona's premier basketball programs.

What followed was a journey that tested his faith, character, leadership, and understanding of human nature. A Good Deed Punished is the novel drawn from that experience, a story of conflict, triumph, vindication, and the hidden costs of standing by one's principles.

They questioned his coaching. He defended his character.

The superintendent leaned toward me and said I had 'low character and no integrity.' That was when the proverbial shit hit the fan.

My expression changed. I moved to the edge of my chair, looked him directly in the eyes, and pointed a finger toward his face. 'You don't know me,' I said. 'And don't you ever call my character into question again.'

I took a breath, but I did not back away. 'I don't lie, cheat, or steal. I don't scratch if I don't itch, and I don't dance if I don't like the music.' The room went completely still.

'You can call me a bad coach. You can disagree with my methods. But you will never, as long as you live, call my character into question again.' There was no oxygen left in the room. It was only uncomfortable silence left.

In that moment, they finally saw the real Gino M. Crump from Mount Pleasant. There was nothing else said, and the meeting ended. That is when I knew everything changed, and nothing would ever be the same.
