A Coach's Fight for Honor, Justice, and Redemption

The Novel

The Story

He left Washington, D.C. for Arizona to lead one of the state's most successful high school basketball programs. He believed the scoreboard would be his hardest opponent. He was wrong.

What he walked into was a minefield of politics, racial tension, parental influence, and quiet agendas. The greatest opposition did not come from rival benches. It came from the very people he had tried to help, and, in time, from within himself.

A Good Deed Punished is his firsthand account of that season and its aftermath. A story of conflict, triumph, resilience, and the hidden costs of standing by one's principles.

The gym was empty the way only a gym can be empty, the silence still holding the shape of the noise that had filled it an hour before. I stood at center court and let the quiet press in.

I had made the call that morning. Everyone agreed it was the right one. By nightfall, half of them would pretend they never had.

That is the thing nobody warns you about doing the right thing. It does not arrive with applause. It arrives with a bill.
